Description
This rich and hearty Spaghetti Meat Sauce is packed with ground beef, tomatoes, garlic, and herbs for an easy homemade dinner everyone will love. Simmered low and slow with a splash of balsamic vinegar, it’s the perfect sauce for spaghetti, baked pasta, or freezer prep.
Ingredients
Scale
- 2 tablespoons olive oil
- 2 tablespoons balsamic vinegar
- 2 pounds ground beef
- 1 large yellow onion, chopped
- 3 cloves garlic, minced
- 2 tablespoons dried basil
- Salt and pepper to taste
- 2 (28 oz) cans crushed tomatoes
- 1 (28 oz) can tomato sauce
Instructions
- Sauté the aromatics: In a large skillet or Dutch oven, heat olive oil over medium heat. Add garlic and sauté for 1 minute, then stir in the onions and cook until translucent.
- Brown the meat: Add ground beef and cook until no longer pink, breaking it into small pieces as it browns. Drain excess fat if desired.
- Add tomatoes and flavor: Stir in crushed tomatoes, tomato sauce, balsamic vinegar, dried basil, salt, and pepper. Mix well to combine.
- Simmer: Cover and simmer on low heat for 2 to 3 hours, stirring occasionally. The longer it cooks, the deeper the flavor.
- Serve: Spoon the meat sauce over cooked spaghetti or your favorite pasta. Garnish with fresh basil or Parmesan if desired.
Notes
Use lean ground beef for a lighter sauce or substitute with turkey or plant-based crumbles for a vegetarian option. This sauce freezes well and actually tastes better the next day. Add a Parmesan rind while simmering for added richness.
